The Eight Gate Training
of

Master Jou, Tsung Hwa

Saturday, June 7, 2008 1:00 to 4:00 PM

Grand Master Jou said that the master key to Taijiquan was to be able to express the five elements in the legs and the eight gates in the arms. This principle has been talked about by many mastersover the years. This thread of training was Master Jou's way of developing our awareness of these principles and giving us a way to bring them into expression in whole body movement.
While we bring this training into the Basics Classes, this workshop will give you the opportunity to learn all the parts of this thread of training so that you can bring it fully into your practice.

The parts are:

Eight Gate Meditation
Eight Count Walk
Single Arm Walking Practice
Double Arm Walking Practice
Eight Posture Form

Fee $40.00

Qigong

A New Class
Neigong I Basics

Neigong can be defined as work with the internal energy
already present in the body. So this is different from
Qigong which is focused on drawing energy into the body
and using the breath to lead it to wherever it is needed.
In Neigong we are principally using mind intent to guide
the energy to where we want it to go in the body. This is
the beginning of the internal practices which strengthen
the power (jin) and lead to increased martial and healing
ability and finally to Taoist spiritual practices.
In this class we will begin studying
Master Jou, Tsung Hwa's more advanced Neigong.
We will learn several ways of practicing "breathing without
breathing" and reverse breathing Then we will
introduce Master Jou's Ta'i Chi Ch'i Gong (Qigong) and
two ways of practicing this essential Qigong.
More advanced practices will be introduced in future classes.

This class will meet Saturdays starting April 5
8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Class Fee will be $120.00

This class may be taken independently or as a part of the
T'ai Chi Ch'uan curriculum.

The Shiba (18) Luohangong is a 1,500 year old qigong set attributed to Bodhidharma, 28th patriarch of Buddhism, who traveled from India to China in the 6th century. It was the first system he taught to the monks of the Shaolin Temple, to assist them in maintaining their health for long periods of meditation, and by tradition, forms the basis of Shaolin Gongfu. This set was transmitted to us by Dr. Jay Dunbar.

The Yang Style Straight Sword Form

of Master Jou Tsung Hwa

This 58 Posture form was learned by Master Jou

It was probably Xiong, Yanghe who wrote the book on this form).
This is an older and more detailed version of
Yang Taijijian than the one most commonly seen today.

New Class With David Shaver,

Wu, Yu Xiang Style 108 Form

Wu, Yu Xiang (1812 1880) first learned Chen style
Taijiquan from Chen, Qingping in Zhaobao Village. Chen
was a man of great achievement whose form was called
Xiao Jia (small form) because it is a small style of the
Chen family Taijiquan. He then studied Yang Style with
Yang, Luchan, the founder of that style. Wu's brother
found the Taiji Classics in a salt store and gave them
to Wu, Yu Xiang. By diligently practicing and researching
the Classics he obtained more knowledge about Taijiquan
than anyone had done before that time. Based on this he
wrote 'An Internal Explanation of the Thirteen Postures',
now an important classic. He went on to develop his
style which Master Jou felt was so highly developed
"that the only possible evolution was to formlessness."

Beginning Monday Oct. 1, from 6:00 to 7:30 PM

This Class will be held at the East Haddam School
The fee is $180.00

Fall Workshop and Energy Share
Sunday, September 16th, 1 to 4 p.m.

Wei Qigong is a simple yet profound "special technique" developed by Professor Duan, Zhi Liang. It is a method for drawing excess energy down from the head (quite a usual problem for us westerners) and balancing the whole body. This can be followed by Qigong practice or other forms of energy healing such as Reiki, Polarity, Shiatsu or Jin Shin Do. Professor Duan, Zhi Liang is a 98 year old Qigong master who began his training in martial and healing arts at the age of six in the Forbidden City. He is the son of a long line of men who served the emperor as bodyguards and doctors since the Ming Dynasty. He continues today at his two clinics in Beijing where he and his wife, Tian, treat patients with a blend of herbal remedies, acupuncture, tui na and qigong.. Professor Duan is also a very able adversary in the martial arts. He practices daily with the joy and exuberance of a child at play.

The workshop will be taught by David Shaver
Wei Qigong will be taught from1:00 to 2:30
The practice time will be from 2:30 to 4:00

This Class will be held at the East Haddam School
FEE $25.00 for the afternoon $5.00 for just the practice time
Payment due one week before workshop.
